FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY
Transparency is an essential part of the trust we seek to build with our partners, our audience and the wider public.
CPGNNews is committed to providing regular financial reporting on the use and allocation of partnership and philanthropic resources.
A financial transparency report will be prepared every six months, providing an overview of resources received through partnerships and the principal areas in which those resources have been allocated, subject to applicable legal, contractual and privacy requirements.
These reports will be made available to CPGNNews partners and, where appropriate, to the wider public.
Our objective is simple: those who contribute to the development of independent journalism should be able to understand how their support contributes to that mission.
Financial transparency and editorial independence are complementary principles: transparency tells our partners how resources are managed; independence ensures that those resources do not determine what we publish.
OUR EDITORIAL INDEPENDENCE CHARTER
Partnership does not mean editorial influence.
Every partnership with CPGNNews is governed by a fundamental principle: funding and editorial decision-making must remain independent of one another.
Accordingly:
- No partner has the right to review, approve or veto editorial content before publication;
- No partner may determine story selection, sourcing, editorial angles or conclusions;
- No partner receives preferential editorial treatment because of its financial, institutional or strategic relationship with CPGNNews;
- Editorial decisions remain the responsibility of the editorial leadership of CPGNNews;
- Revenue and partnership functions operate independently from editorial functions, with clearly defined responsibilities and separate reporting lines.
These principles are not merely statements of intent. They form a fundamental condition of partnership with CPGNNews.
A FIREWALL BETWEEN FUNDING AND EDITORIAL DECISIONS
CPGNNews maintains a clear operational separation between its partnership and revenue functions and its editorial functions.
The Revenue & Partnerships function manages funding relationships, partnership development, financial reporting and institutional cooperation.
The Editorial Board defines editorial priorities, assigns reporting, evaluates content and retains final responsibility for publication decisions.
These functions operate independently. Necessary organizational or legal coordination may occur, but no such coordination may be used to influence editorial judgment or published content.
The principle is simple:
Partners may help strengthen the institution. They do not determine what the institution publishes.
BUILDING FROM THE CARIBBEAN, OPEN TO THE WORLD
CPGNNews represents a broader ambition than the development of another media operation.
It is an effort to build from the Caribbean an international editorial platform capable of participating fully in the conversations that shape our shared world.
For too long, regions such as the Caribbean have too often been observed, interpreted or represented from elsewhere. CPGNNews seeks to contribute to a different chapter — one in which the region is not only part of the global conversation, but also helps shape it.
Geography should never determine the value of a voice, nor the distance from traditional media centres determine the reach of an idea.
Building this kind of institution will require patience, discipline, resilience and long-term commitment. We do not pretend that the journey will be easy.
